Living in Hornell

Hornell is located in the beautifully green Canisteo Valley, and boasts a population of just under 10,000. Known as “The Maple City,” Hornell has a strong public schooling system, a thriving Main Street filled with locally owned businesses and plenty of city designated green space and parks where families enjoy the four distinct seasons of New York State. We’re known for our snow-filled winters, but enjoy activities year-round throughout the summer, fall and spring, months, too!

As part of Upstate New York’s Southern Tier, we’re just a short drive from many tourist highlights—the Finger Lakes wine trails, the Corning Museum of Glass and Letchworth State Park (known as “the Grand Canyon of the East”) to name a few. We’re just an hour’s drive from Rochester, New York, home to a booming retail scene and cultural activities including dozens of annual festivals and world-renowned museums, including the George Eastman House, Memorial Art Gallery and Strong National Museum of Play.

We’re also close to world-class educational facilities, including Alfred University—graduating 70% of the world’s ceramic engineers, the State University of New York at Geneseo, Alfred State College and Corning Community College.

Hornell represents the best of rural and urban locations—great healthcare, education, shopping and entertainment—all within easy reach from our compact city, ideal for new business development in an approachable and affordable setting. We invite you to visit Hornell and see for yourself what makes our city such a great place to call home!
