The City of Hornell offers a wide variety of organized programs for the 
young and the old, such as Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball, Maple City Softball League (formerly Cinderella Softball), slo pitch, Biddy T-Ball and Vince Lombardi Football. Also summer and winter co-ed volley ball leagues and men's basketball leagues. The City also operates a senior citizens center that provides regular recreation programs and field trips for interested senior citizens, located at 20 Broadway Hornell, New York 14843, 607-324-4891.

The City of Hornell has five recreational parks, James St. Park, Maple City Sports Complex, Columbian School, Bryant School, and Madison Ave. The two major parks are Maple City Sports Complex, which consists of tennis courts, walking and jogging track (all weather surface), a playground and horseshoe pit. James Street Park is a larger facility that consists of tennis courts, walking and jogging paths, and a beautiful new outdoor pool and playground facility, a roller skating and ice skating rink (outdoors), picnic facilities, grills, 6 pavilions, softball and baseball fields, volley ball courts, basketball courts, etc. James Street Park is open Monday through Friday 9:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.. children at the playgrounds will be transported to the library and pool one day per week.
Arts and Crafts will be everyday.

Clubs and Associations providing recreational activities:

The Hornell Area Family YMCA is an association serving all persons in Hornell and the surrounding areas, with an emphasis on serving family and youth, and promoting wellness and fitness. The Hornell YMCA strives to meet the greater community needs. The YMCA offers swimming lessons, recreational swim, aqua-exercise, a fitness center, babysitting service, pre-school programs, kindergym, latchkey program and aerobics. The YMCA offers a constantly changing line-up of activities and events that are sure to please anyone.

Hornell Area Concern for Youth, Inc., also offers professional help to young people and their families through a wide variety of programs and sources. They are a not-for-profit organization, responsible for serving western Steuben County. They operate a youth center with regularly scheduled activities and year round field trips. The Southern Tier Camp Fire Council, offers a wide variety of activities through out the year During the summer months they offer summer camp. The Council is located at 20 Broadway, Hornell, New York 14843.

The Hornell area also offers a full slate of sporting and recreational activities including horseback riding, skiing, bowling, and golf courses, and area campgrounds. Many activities are offered at area institutions of higher learning such as Alfred University and Alfred State College, located in Alfred, New York.
